Pak-Turks Relations

Turkish Flag

The gestures of love and Goodwill between Subcontinent Muslims and Turkish people go far away to the very origin of Turkish Ottoman Islamic Empire with which Muslims were deeply associated.
In the 1950s both Countries joined the Western block by signing SEATO and CENTO pact, bringing two countries more closer to each other. Pakistan has been supportive of the Turkish point of view on Cyprus and Kurdish issue whereas Turks have supported Pakistan on Kashmir.

Turkey supported Pakistan in Indo-Pak war of 1965 by providing moral, political and material support.Turkey supported Pakistan against Indian aggression in 1971 and didn’t recognize Bangladesh until Pak recognized it.

The 1980s saw another era of close cooperation between Turkey and Pakistan against Soviet Expansion into Afghanistan. However, the internal conflict of Afghanistan involved regional powers into a proxy war of superiority in which Turkey was supporting Northern Alliance and Pakistan was supporting Taliban.

After the attack of 9/11, subsequent attack of America on Afghanistan and with the formation of Karzai Government, both were on the same page against Terrorism.
Turkey has been helping Pakistan in modernizing Jet Planes, in providing military weapons whereas recently Pakistan has also provided Turkey with Super Mashak aircraft.

Mistrusts:

Pak supported Taliban in the aftermath of Soviet defeat whereas Turkey supported Nothern Alliance being ethnic Turks. This created some sort of timely confusion between the two countries but soon that mistrust soon vanished.

Turkey supported ETIM(East Turkistan Islamic Movement) which was and is a constant danger to China, being an ally of China, Pakistan took strong action against ETIM. This somewhat alienated Turkey but both countries forged close ties again.
