Partial Democracy

Ballot box

Former US president Abraham Lincoln says about democracy, “Government of the people, by the people and for the people” but this has never been the case here in Pakistan. In Pakistan, the rich are enjoying the perks and privileges of democracy whereas poor are dying of hunger.

The three main pillars of country’s overall makeup are Education, health, and economy.
Starting from education, the corrupt upper lot has divided the education sector on the basis of classes. Four different types of education systems are running in parallel to each other e.g Madrassahs, Government schools, Low-level public schools and Elite public schools.

Children studying in the first three categories are being ruined by poverty and hunger whereas Elite schools are enjoying lavish facilities. This is creating a hugely imbalanced society based on different education systems.

Health is also presenting the same grim picture. Most of the people die here because of non-availability of proper medical facilities, no medicines are available in the hospital and even if medicines are available, these medicines are sold by the corrupt hospital officials. In contrast to this, Rich go to the most modern and technologically advanced countries for treatment spending millions of rupees. This unique class structure is the byproduct of this partisan democracy.

Now if we move towards the economy, it is also presenting the same gloomy scenario that we studied in the education and health sector. Government comes up with some attractive statistics during Budget season but these statistics do not transform on the broader level, remaining confined to a particular class.
The economic boom during General  Ayub Khan and some other civil and military rulers were never reflected in the society in a true sense. The macroeconomic factors usually present some attractive figures but poor remain poor and overall society never takes advantage due to the hegemony of few families.

This partial democracy has never produced results and we must strive towards a completely free and fair democracy producing fruitful results for the common people. The benefits should not remain limited to few families rather should reflect the society on grass root level.
