Energy had always been one of the major
requirements to sustain human life on earth and currently, it is the major
source of global conflicts across the globe. The wars that are currently fought
in the Middle East, Africa and other parts of the world are in one way or the
other related to the global competition for achieving dominance in the field of
energy availability. According to experts the turmoil in Libya, Iraq, Nigeria, Venezuela, and other countries is due to their natural energy resources with different
countries supporting different groups to get a better share in the energy supply.
The reason for this race to get as much energy resources as possible is due to the energy
crisis currently prevailing in the world and the adverse effect of this energy crisis
on the industrial development of the developing and developed nations. Experts in
the field of energy have come up with different solutions to deal with
depleting energy resources. Here prominent energy crisis solutions will be
discussed.
1) Tapping oil and gas resources
Huge quantities of oil and other energy
resources like oil and gas are available under the earth's crust with a major
portion of it still not explored. Governments with the help of energy experts must
focus on how to tap these resources and make it usable. The exploration of
these resources needs funds and expertise. The fund can be provided by the
governments or by the private investment firms whereas expertise is mostly brought
by the energy exploration companies. Most of the unexplored energy resources
are in the poor countries of the world the governments of which cannot afford to
spend huge amounts of money. This money is provided by the investors with a
major portion coming from foreign countries which leads to kickbacks and commissions
and the investors and ruling elite getting most of the benefits. The poorer
sections always suffering. Take a look at Venezuela and Nigeria. These
countries are rich in energy but with no economic benefit for the poor sections
of the society. Thus the energy crisis solution will be to provide energy to
the small and medium industries in these countries.
2) Building dams
Hydel power is one of the cheapest and
cleanest forms of energy. Most of the countries which are facing the energy crisis
have huge amounts of water resources. The three things they need are political
will, proper planning, and investment. Once these things are available, clean
energy can be explored at ease. The energy generated by the dams has no
adverse effect on the environment and as such, it is highly recommended in the current
global scenario. Similarly, it has high initial investment but later on, it generates
energy at a much cheaper rate.
3) Coal energy exploration
Though coal energy has an adverse impact
on the environment as has been witnessed in the case of China but still, it is
propagated as one of the major energy crisis solutions for the less-developed
countries because they contribute very less to the global percentage of
pollution. In Pakistan huge quantity of coal is available in the province of
Sindh with a major chunk of it remains unexplored as yet. If Pakistan taps these
energy and use it as an energy-mix it can solve the energy crisis prevailing in
the world because coal is one of the cheap energy resources.
4) Curbing theft of electricity
The theft of electricity is one of the
major problems of the looming energy crisis in less-developed countries. There
is no mechanism in place to check the theft of electricity. Even if there are mechanisms,
those mechanisms are outdated with the least use of modern digital methods. The
need of the hour is that governments should invest and should invite investors
to invest in employing modern digital methods to curb electricity theft.
5) Investing in renewable energy resources
Renewable energy resources provide
clean, environment-friendly, and sustained energy and are considered a major energy
crisis solution. Hydel is one form of renewable energy which is conventionally-used
but in the modern world, many other methods have been introduced which are a bit
expensive in terms of investment but provides clean and renewable energy. Renewable
energy resources include Solar energy, wind energy, tidal energy, and biomass, etc.
Countries need to focus more on investing renewable energy resources since the
energy produced by these resources is clean and green.
Conclusion
Energy being one of the most important
needs of the human being require deep attention and as such methods to explore
untapped resources of energy must be employed to deal with the prevailing energy
crisis.
